Before we continue with "The Journey", I'd like to present you with a one-off strip I did in honor of my church The Crossing's recent visitor, Ms. Irene Zisblatt, an 86 year-old Hungarian Jew who, between the ages of 13 and 15, was taken prisoner at Auschwitz, her family brutally murdered and she herself tortured, starved, and experimented on by the diabolical Dr. Josef Mengele. Her testimony, her extraordinary escape, and how she came to deal with her experiences are currently available in her autobiography "The Fifth Diamond". Her other accomplishments include raising a family despite attempts by the Nazi regime to sterilize her, serve as one of the witnesses of the Holocaust in the Steven Spielberg-produced film The Last Days, and was a consultant for Spielberg's Oscar-winning Shilndler's List. As we listened to her compelling (and oft-times horrifying) testimony, I drew and inked this strip in her inspiration and that of a moving scene in the recent Avengers film. As warned, there is a mild spoiler of dialogue, but I hope you enjoy this entry:
